Shadow!, a site specific project for the Bentway’s skate trail, responds to the change of urban form taking place under the Gardiner Expressway. Once dark and uninviting, the arterial infrastructure of the city is now being transformed into an active communal place where people can see themselves and others. Shadow! shines light onto ice skaters moving under the highway amplifying their presence and intensifying their connection to their surroundings. Moving silhouettes are cast onto the concrete columns and are combined with shadows from other skaters in the city. Shadow! also revives the long shadows cast by people who would have once walked here along the historical shoreline of Lake Ontario.
